Unit 631
Unit 631 was formerly a South Korean military unit, which became rogue following the outbreak in South Korea in the year of 2016. They served as the main antagonists in the 2020 South Korean post-apocalyptic action horror film "Peninsula". They are infamous for organizing cruel survival games where they take prisoners they captured and force them to survive against a group of zombies, mostly taking place in an abandoned mall which was repurposed for their cruel games. They are mostly based in Incheon. Unit 631 is presumably destroyed after the events of Peninsula, after both Captain Seo and Sergeant Hwang were killed along with dozens of the units members.
History[]
According to Min-Jung, Unit 631 was a military unit based in Incheon, which rescued civilians during the South Korean outbreak in 2016, but when they attempted to request assistance and to evacuate from South Korea, they did not receive a response as all communications coming in and out of the country had been cut off, as a result of the entire country being contained to stop the virus from spreading. Eventually, Unit 631 went rogue during the four years before the events of Peninsula, and established a base in an abandoned mall. They eventually began capturing survivors and using them to host survival games, where they have to face groups of infected. Min-Jung, along with her family escaped from the group. Eventually,
Unit 631 made their first appearance, when a team led by Jung-seok, Chulmin, and two other Korean nationals attempted to head their way back to Incheon Port with a mission to retrieve a truck full of money. The team is ambushed by the unit, which was led by Sergeant Hwang, killing one in the crash and Sergeant Hwang killing the other. Jung-seok manages to escape from the ambush when he was rescued by two girls traveling in an armored vehicle, Joon and Yu-jin, who took them to their hideout while Chul-min hides in a truck and was captured in the process. The unit transported the truck back to their base, unaware of the money inside. Chul-min was then restrained by the unit as they stripped him of his shirt, and spray-painted numbers on him before keeping him confined within a container. Chul-min and the group of prisoners were then forced into the survival game, killing all of them except Chul-min, who was forced into the container.
Eventually, the unit became aware of the duffel bag full of money within the truck. Private Kim goes to the office of Captain Seo, who was placing a pistol to the roof of his mouth, only to be interrupted by Private Kim knocking on his door. Kim offers him a drink, and informed him regarding the truck. When Captain Seo arrived to the truck, he sees the duffel bag full of money along with a phone, which eventually rang. Captain Seo picked it up, only to receive a message from the other side regarding a offer, an offer from the Chinese mobsters back in Hong Kong. Realizing that it wasn't Jung-seok, Chul-min and the rest of the group, they informed Captain Seo that they were on a ship which docked in Incheon, and if Captain Seo delivers the truck containing the duffel bag full of money, he would be able to escape from South Korea. Meanwhile, Jung-seok reveals to Min-jung and her family that an extraction ship awaits his team and the truck at Incheon Port. Min-jung devises a plan to steal the truck and escape the peninsula with her family and Jung-seok.
The following night, Jung-seok and Min-jung infiltrate the militia's base and attempt to steal the truck. While holding Private Kim at gunpoint, Jung-seok learns that Chul-min is alive, and interrupts an ongoing survival game to rescue him, killing numerous zombies and Unit 631 soldiers. Chul-min narrowly saves Jung-seok from a zombie bite, but is shortly shot dead by Sergeant Hwang, much to Jung-seok's dismay. Min-jung fends off Captain Seo and escapes in the truck with Jung-seok, but their route is blocked by a horde of zombies. Joon, Yu-jin, and Elder Kim arrive and distract the zombies on a chase to their car.
It first appear when they discovered one of Jung-Seok's teammate and then they betray and killed him. Then, they run away and took the run into their compound which abandoned mall and discovered Chul-min which he imprisoned and taken into gladiator between prisoners and infected despite he revealed that he has satellite phone to escape from South Korea, the members careless to know about it.
Private Kim discovered a dozen of bags contain full of US Dollar which soon he tells to Captain Seo without notifying Sergeant Hwang and Seo receives call from Hong Kong's Mobster that they had waiting for the money.
Captain Seo later informed Sergeant Hwang and all of Unit 631's member by lying to them about his escape. Private Kim soon threated by Min-Jung for secure Jung-Seok's mission to rescue his brother in-law (which later he killed after the mall has been overrun by zombies) and later shot by Captain Seo after the truck. As Jung-Seok, Min jung along with her family escape to the harbor, Unit 631 chased them in pursuit until several members overrun or crashed while Sergeant Hwang is attacked by the horde after Jung-Seok shots the glasses letting the horde attacking Sergeant Hwang.
