History[]

Jin-hee is an ordinary Korean school girl attending Sin Yeon High School. On what seems like just another day, she boards a train along with her high school’s baseball team, completely unaware that she is about to be caught in the middle of a terrifying zombie outbreak. She was born in Dangjin, South Korea, on August 18, 1999, and like any teenager, she simply wants to support her friends and have a good time. But fate has other plans for her.

Just moments before the train departs from Seoul, Jin-hee hops on, excitedly tagging along with the baseball team and calling herself their "cheerleader." She makes herself comfortable next to one of the baseball players, Yong-guk, who doesn’t seem too thrilled about her company. Though her presence annoys him at first, this dynamic soon becomes the least of their worries.

As the train speeds along its route, chaos suddenly erupts. A passenger, already infected with the mysterious zombie virus, begins attacking people, triggering a horrific chain reaction. Within minutes, the once-lively train transforms into a nightmare as infected passengers turn into bloodthirsty zombies, mindlessly biting anyone in their path. Jin-hee watches in horror as most of the baseball team—her friends—are attacked and transformed before her very eyes. Desperate to survive, she flees with a small group of remaining survivors, including Yong-guk, into another train car, narrowly escaping the carnage.

Their escape, however, is short-lived. Upon arriving at Daejeon Station, they expect safety, as soldiers are reported to be stationed there to contain the outbreak. But as they step off the train and descend the stairs toward the exit, they make a gut-wrenching discovery—the soldiers have already been infected. The station, meant to be a place of security, is instead swarming with zombies. The group scrambles to get back to the train as more people are attacked. Amidst the chaos, Jin-hee manages to save an elderly woman named Jong-gil, helping her get back onboard as they realize their only hope is to continue toward Busan, which is rumored to still be safe.

Later, Jin-hee receives a call from Yong-guk, who has been separated from the group. To her relief, he tells her he has survived the attack and will try to reunite with them in their train car. Hearing his voice overwhelms her with emotion, and she begins to cry, sharing the good news with the other survivors. However, their hopes are quickly crushed by Yong-suk, a ruthless and selfish businessman who refuses to let any additional survivors into their car, fearing they might be infected. He orders others to block the entrance, essentially leaving Yong-guk and the others outside to fend for themselves. Jin-hee is physically restrained by Ki-chul at Yong-suk’s command, struggling desperately to break free and help her friend.

Despite Yong-suk’s efforts, the extra survivors manage to force their way into the train car. Jin-hee is finally reunited with Yong-guk, but the relief is short-lived. The passengers, still paranoid and fearful, reject Yong-guk and his group, forcing them to move to another car. Without hesitation, Jin-hee follows Yong-guk, choosing to stay by his side rather than remain with those who turned their backs on them.

Tensions continue to rise, and tragedy soon strikes again. Jong-gil, devastated by the loss of her sister during the attack, makes a heartbreaking decision—she opens the door to the zombie-infested train car, letting the undead swarm in. Panic spreads as the group realizes that the railroad ahead is blocked, forcing them to find another way forward. Jin-hee and Yong-guk frantically run to another train, trying to get away. Jin-hee watches as Yong-guk struggles to open the train door, urgency filling the air.

Then, in a cruel twist of fate, Yong-suk appears once again, proving his selfishness knows no bounds. In his desperate attempt to save himself, he shoves Jin-hee straight into the path of the zombies. Before she can react, one of the infected sinks its teeth into her leg. Pain and shock wash over her as she realizes her fate is sealed.

Yong-guk, devastated, refuses to leave her behind. Despite knowing what will happen, he stays with Jin-hee, unwilling to let her face death alone. As the infection takes over her body, she turns into one of the undead—and in his grief, Yong-guk allows himself to be bitten as well, choosing to join her in her tragic fate.

What started as a simple train ride ended in horror, sacrifice, and heartbreak. Jin-hee’s story is one of bravery, love, and loss, proving that in the face of disaster, even the smallest acts of loyalty and kindness can define a person’s final moments.
